Recently Pinterest managed to increase their activation rate by up to 10%.
For such a giant website that’s a huge improvement.
How did they manage to do this?
1. They surveyed their community.
2. While analyzing feedback they found one common piece. It was that Pinterest felt foreign to people outside of the U.S. from the moment they signed up.
3. They discovered the reason for that. When someone first signs up, Pinterest asks visitors to identify their interests from a set of topics. And these topics were the same for the whole world.
4. So they started to only show content that’s locally relevant.
Result:
Those who signed up were up to 10% more likely to come back and use Pinterest.
