January 2014. Slack had only 12,000 users.
October 2015. Slack had 1.7 million users.
And achieved a $2.8 billion valuation.

Here are some of the key elements that allowed them to achieve these amazing results:
1. They defined a #1 goal: to grow 5% every week (www.inc.com/magazine/201512/jeff-bercovici/slack-company-of-the-year-2015.html).
2. They started inviting teams in batches and watched what happened.
Then they made some changes, watched what happened, made some more changes…
3. Positioned the product for teams rather than entire companies.

This bottom-up approach made it very simple to eventually attract enterprises without the need to depend on top executives.
