Google penalties: 8 steps to identify/recover

If you noticed an instant drop in your search traffic, there is a big chance you’ve been penalized by Google.

How to identify/recover from Google’s Penguin Penalty:
1. Visit https://majestic.com/
2. Enter your site’s domain.
3. Scroll to the bottom to see your site’s anchor text distribution.
4.1. Everything is OK if your site’s anchor text distribution contains targeted keyword variations, brand name keywords, naked URLs, and other natural variations.
4.2. It’s likely you’ve been hit by Penguin if you have only exact match keywords. In this case you’ll need to remove all your unnatural backlinks.

How to identify/recover from Google’s Panda Penalty:
1. Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home
2. Click on your website (or hit “add a property” if you haven’t yet)
3. Click on “Search appearance” -> “HTML improvements”
4. If you see any issues listed – fix them all.
