Revenue-generating experiments to boost your revenue

DMV changed one image and boosted their revenue by 74.92%
DMV helps drivers find the best car insurance rates.

Their original revenue-generating banner looked like this:
1. Headline: Compare Car Insurance Quotes in 3 steps
2. Enter Your ZIP: [GO]

Experiment #1.
They added small text below the ZIP field: "Get quotes from top providers in [VISITOR’S STATE]"
Result: Revenue increased by 3.9%

Experiment #2.
1. Added social proof to the headline: "Join 1,972,984 who searched DMV for car insurance rates:"
2. Added social proof #1 – Facebook widget with 277K likes.
It increased their revenue, but I won’t tell you by how much 🙂 – you’ll see why soon…

Experiment #3.
They tested various images:
1. An animated GIF of a fender-bender.
2. A photo of a dog driving a car.
3. A photo of a sad-looking driver.
4. A banner that had no image but was shaped like a car.

Result:
The car-shaped banner increased revenue per visitor by 74.92%.
This result was sustainable even after 2 years.
