Growth hacking doesn’t make any sense if your retention sucks.
This is why Calm, a meditation app, decided to figure out how to boost it.
And they managed to increase their retention by 3 times!
Here’s how they did it:
1. They divided their audience by the features they use.
2. Then analyzed retention of each segment/feature.
3. And found that people who use one of the features show 3x higher retention than average.
4. This feature was that it allowed users to set a reminder for their daily meditation session.
5. But less than 1% used the reminder feature because it was buried deep on the Settings page.
6. They made Daily Reminders more prominent – after a user completes their first meditation session, they are shown a screen encouraging them to set a daily reminder.
Boom! 40% of users who saw the prompt went on to set a daily reminder and their retention increased by 3 times!
Have you analyzed what feature generates the highest retention for you?
